Remove ads, trackers, and promotional clutter from Douyu live pages without breaking the player.

DouyuHelper is a lightweight Chrome extension for Douyu live rooms. It blocks advertising and tracking requests at the network layer, hides promotional overlays with CSS, and keeps the video player, control bar, and danmaku overlay working. Configuration lives in a compact popup where every switch maps to a real feature category.

Why This Extension?

Block Before the Page Downloads

Static declarativeNetRequest rules stop silent MP4 ad downloads, real-time bidding requests, tracking beacons, and gift template JSON before they reach the page. Three independent rule sets — ads, trackers, and activities — can be enabled or disabled from the popup.

Hide Without Destroying

Promotional overlays, floating ad cards, treasure chests, giveaway wheels, login prompts, and activity widgets are hidden with high-specificity CSS. The extension does not remove nodes from the page's React tree, so layout and player state stay stable.

Protect Playback

A small MAIN-world hook cancels the automatic quality downgrade timer, locks the selected quality timestamp, and keeps the first frame alive. It deliberately does not block the player's webpack chunks, because doing so prevents the player from initializing at all.

Local and Private

There are no accounts, no servers, and no analytics. Settings are stored in chrome.storage.sync, session statistics stay in chrome.storage.session, and the extension never sends data anywhere.

How It Works

Install and open a live room: Navigate to any Douyu live page.
Requests are filtered: The browser applies the enabled declarative rule sets before requests are sent.
Clutter is hidden: A stylesheet hides known promotional elements; the player is left untouched.
Adjust from the popup: Turn categories on or off; changes take effect immediately and sync through your Chrome profile.

What Is Blocked

Background MP4 video ads and advertising image resources
Real-time bidding and ad exchange requests
Third-party analytics and tracking beacons, including Baidu, Google Tag Manager, and Douyu telemetry endpoints
Gift template JSON used by promotional activity widgets
Activity and special-effect stylesheets that are not required by the player

What Stays Untouched

The video player, control bar, quality menu, and danmaku canvas
The player's webpack chunks, including the SVGA player chunk
Chat, gift sending, login, and other core site functionality
Page scripts and network responses that are not on the block list

Known Limitations

Tested on Chrome and Chromium only; Firefox is not verified.
Douyu serves several player variants. Some pages may use a variant that has not been tested as extensively.
Rule-set switches are browser-profile level, not per-tab.
Some login-gated quality-menu marketing items are hidden selectively rather than removing the whole menu.
Login and guide overlays and the playback guard are always on and do not have popup switches.
The extension only operates on Douyu domains and does not affect other websites.

Privacy

The extension collects nothing, sends nothing, and contains no analytics or telemetry. Settings stay in chrome.storage.sync, session statistics stay in chrome.storage.session, and no data is written to a server. Read the Privacy Policy for details.
